The Alvarinho variety has remained in the Melgaço region for years and, traditionally, vines were planted on the edges of the fields, with cereals occupying a central place in the plots. In 1974, João António Cerdeira and his parents, António Esteves Ferreira and Maria Cerdeira, decided to break with that tradition and planted the first parcel of continuous vines of the Alvarinho variety in Melgaço, which was baptized with the name "Soalheiro", given its sun exposure. The pioneering spirit of João António marked the history of the family, which has since been linked to the production of Alvarinho in Melgaço. Today it is the third generation that continues the legacy, extending its vision to organic production.
