Fonseca belongs to the first league of vintage Port wine producing houses. Few Port wine producers have maintained this coherence of quality and style in each Vintage.
Fonseca Vintage Port is a selection of the most exquisite wines from a single year, bottled after two years in wood. Only when wines from a particular year are considered to be of exceptional quality and concentration, is a Fonseca Vintage declared.

| Climate | The beginning of the year was marked by cold and rain. For five months, from November to April, almost 500 millimeters of rain fell on Pinhão in the heart of Cima Corgo. The rain in winter and spring was essential because it replenished the depleted underground water reserves that allowed to face a very dry season of maturation. Budding occurred, as expected, around the third weekend in March and the hot and humid conditions in April encouraged vigorous growth. From the 1st of May to the 21st of August the hot and very dry weather settled in, with a short heat wave at the end of June. |
| Test Results | Inky black core with fine purple edge. The nose opens in a dense mass of blackberries and blackcurrant. Compact and concentrated, it presents great purity - a characteristic of vintage 2011. The nose gradually opens, revealing a matrix of intoxicating aromas of aromatic herbs, discreet notes of exotic wood, marzipan and plum, as well as an attractive graphite minerality. Solid, with well integrated tannins that give volume and firmness in the mouth, with reserves of dense black fruit and full of dark chocolate and licorice. It is a vigorous vintage and full of fruit, as is the tradition of the Fonseca Vintages. |
