Fonseca belongs to the first league of vintage Port wine producing houses. Few Port wine producers have maintained this coherence of quality and style in each Vintage.
Fonseca Vintage Port is a selection of the most exquisite wines from a single year, bottled after two years in wood. Only when wines from a particular year are considered to be of exceptional quality and concentration, is a Fonseca Vintage declared.

| Climate | After four hot and dry years, the rainy winter that preceded the 2007 harvest allowed the replacement of water reserves in the Douro region. Wet weather conditions remained during the spring and early summer, with temperatures lower than normal for that time and combined with periods of rain. There were no significant periods of intense heat during the summer months. This ensured that the canopy of the vines was in perfect condition and was able to derive maximum benefit from the cool weather that preceded the harvest. The first two weeks of September showed constant daily temperatures between 35ºC and 38ºC. These conditions of warm and dry weather allowed the perfect ripening of the grapes, advancing the production of sugar and phenols, but maintaining the excellent natural acidity resulting from the relatively cool summer. As a consequence, the vintage produced perfectly balanced musts that gave rise to elegant and stylish wines, full of vitality and with a wonderfully concentrated and fresh fruit character. |
| Test Results | Impenenetrable inky black colour with purple highlights. As would be expected of Fonseca, the nose is dominated by a massively potent and concentrated fruitiness, packed with dense blackcurrant and blackberry aromas. Notes of coffee and exotic wood and hints of wild herbs and mints. The palate is rich and luscious, with thick velvety and wonderfully well integrated tannins enveloped in succulent jammy fruit and rich dark chocolate flavours. |
